Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre has launched its 2015 16 Days of Action campaign ‘Break the Silence’. We have teamed up with actor/writer John Connors (Love/Hate, King of the Travellers), actor Michael Collins (King of the Travellers, Glenroe), and a number of other Traveller and Roma men to break the silence on men’s violence against women.

Patrick Reilly, Violence against Women Project worker in Pavee Point, said “whether settled or a Traveller, men just tend not to speak up about domestic and sexual violence. We, Traveller men, wanted to change this and break the silence on men’s violence against women”.

“Violence against women should not be seen as ‘women’s issue’. The only way we can prevent it is by men taking a stand against it. The message we send through our campaign is clear- we speak up because one in five women is too many; because we see the effects; because it is our responsibility; and simply because it is time for us to take action and speak up to end violence against women".
