The Women's Aid National Freephone Helpline has been operating since 1992 and its excellence in providing support and information to women affected by domestic abuse was recently recognised, for a third time, through accreditation to The Helplines Association Quality Standard.

The Helpines Association (THA) is the membership and good practice organisation for all email, SMS, internet and telephone based helplines in the UK, Ireland and beyond. THA promotes good practice by publishing guidelines, running a membership scheme, delivering consultancy and training and operating the helplines standard, an accreditation programme for the helplines.

The Quality Standard identifies the practices that enable an organisation to deliver a helpline service which is consistent, relevant to the needs of its stakeholders and effective in what it is trying to achieve.

Of 62 applicable criteria, Women's Aid Ireland has demonstrated that it meets all of these in full and accreditation for the Women's Aid National Freephone Helpline was granted on 31st October 2018 for a three year period until 31st October 2021.
