Margaret Martin, Director of Women's Aid, is presenting to the Joint Oireachtas Justice Committee as part of the Domestic Violence Legislation Review public hearings.
Margaret's presentation will share the stories of three women, and the necessary legal changes to keep them safe. The presentation is based on a number of recommendations Women's Aid submitted to the Committee, which if enacted would immediately increase the safety of women and children experiencing domestic abuse.
Women's Aid is a member of the Domestic Violence Coalition, a group made up of ten frontline organisations, which will be represented by Brian Killoran of the Immigrant Council of Ireland at the hearings today. The Coalition's presentation will focus on the need to introduce legislation to protect and support migrant women experiencing domestic violence who are not coming forward because of fears about their immigration status.
