Women's Aid engages strategically with the media to promote our services and to raise awareness of domestic violence. By engaging in media work we hope to reach as many women affected by domestic violence as we can. We also believe that domestic violence will only stop through increased understanding and awareness of the issue.
We believe that the media has a vital role to play in communicating to and educating people about the reality of domestic violence and the effects of domestic violence on both women and children in Irish society.
Women's Aid is often asked to facilitate interviews with women who have survived domestic violence. We have a policy about women speaking publicly about their experiences which aims to maximise women's safety at all times. Women's Aid will consider each request on a case by case basis.
Women's Aid has build up a body of case studies that are based on real accounts as told to the Women's Aid National Freephone Helpline and Support Services. Specific details and circumstances have been changed in the interests of protecting identity and to preserve the confidential nature of Women's Aid Services. Read women's stories.
Permission must be sought if you wish to use these accounts and all must be attributed to Women's Aid.
