Seminar on the Council of Europe Convention on violence against women in Sligo

To mark UN Day Against Violence Against Women 2013, Domestic Violence Advocacy Service (DVAS) are holding a seminar on the Council of Europe Convention on Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence (The Istanbul Convention) and what opportunities are presented to Ireland in tackling the prevalence of gender based violence in our society.
The aim of the seminar is to provide information on and raise awareness about the opportunities for Ireland presented by the Council of Europe Convention on gender based violence and domestic violence.
Speakers will include M.E.P. Marian Harkin; Domestic violence survivor, Cassie Moore, and others.
Objectives of the seminar are to:
Provide information about the Convention, what it sets out to do and implications for Ireland's response to domestic violence
Highlight a number of key policy and practice areas that the Convention tackles and that are of relevance to domestic violence victims and survivors in Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan
Provide an insight into the importance of consistent good practice responses from State agencies and institutions through the story of one survivor of domestic violence
Call for the Irish Government to ratify the Convention and to implement its key provisions without delay
Who will be interested in this seminar
Service providers, practitioners and policy makers in all relevant State agencies and institutions including An Garda Siochana, HSE Children and Family Services, hospital services, mental health services and primary care services, Local Authorities, Department of Social Protection, the Court services and the Probation and Welfare Service

Human rights and equality organisations
Students and 3rd level teaching staff in the humanities
Anyone who is interested to know more about domestic violence and what to do about it.
