Women's Aid training for Maternity health professionals on best practice approaches to recognising and responding to domestic violence during pregnancy and puerperium.
This 2 day training programme (which can be delivered in four half day sessions) provides participants with an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, so that they may recognise it and respond effectively within their role.
Who should attend the training?
Allied health professionals across the maternity services
Why attend training on Domestic Violence?
Domestic violence affects as many as 1 in 8 women in maternity services in Ireland, and is a significant cause of poor maternal and neo-natal health outcomes such as miscarriage, haemorrhage, premature labour, low birth weight and maternal mortality. Training on domestic violence is essential for professionals as the response that women receive to disclosures of abuse can have a major impact on their safety, and on their physical and emotional well being. Whatever your role, this training will equip you with the skills and knowledge to provide an appropriate service to women experiencing domestic violence.
How to book training
Training can be booked by hospitals for up to 16 staff members at a time. Please contact laura.shehan@womensaid.ie for more information.
