Helpline volunteer training
Apply now for the next volunteer training session in January-February 2013.
The training includes a number of modules which allow volunteers space to learn and think about the issue of domestic violence including:
- Root causes of domestic violence
- The range of effects of domestic on women and children
- Obstacles and options for women seeking help
- Listening and support skills
The training involves a significant time commitment, but aims to facilitate women who work and so takes place on Saturdays and evenings (4 x Saturdays and 4 x evenings). This year, we will also be having an additional training for those who are available on weekdays, which will take place over 7 daytime weekday sessions.
The training is delivered in a highly interactive, dynamic environment. It is carried out by the Women's Aid Training & Development Department and the Helpline Manager.
Women's Aid Helpline Training has an excellent reputation and is recognised as one of the best given by a Domestic Violence Service Provider in the Republic.
Following successful completion of the training, volunteers undergo a comprehensive induction into the helpline before taking calls.
When Women's Aid invests this training in potential volunteers we ask volunteers to give a commitment of at least two years to our Helpline Service, although there is no upper limit on the amount of time a volunteer may stay with the service. Indeed some of our volunteers are still with us eight years on.
