Tuam & District Mental Health Association 16 Days Campaign

Tuam and District Mental Health Association are again running the "16 Days of Action Opposing Violence Against Women" campaign, 25th November to 10th of December. This year's campaign will be run in association with Western Traveller Intercultural Development Ltd.

The message of this year's campaign is to "Break the Silence on Domestic Violence".

The campaign aims to bring awareness to families who experience Domestic Violence, that there is help and support in their community. The campaign will also focus on lobbying for a change in the Domestic Violence Act 1996 and the signing of the Istanbul Convention.

 

The Programme of Events is as follows;

Ard Family Resource Centre – Lunch and Balloon Launch

As part of the 16 Days Campaign Ard Family Resource Centre (Doughiska Galway are hosing a Women's Lunch and Balloon Launch on Thurs 22 Nov at 12pm.

Balloons will also be released from the balcony off the back of the centre, refreshments will be provided and all are welcome! People are also invited to bring along a home-cooked dish if they can.

The ARD Family Resource Centre which is located in Doughiska, provides courses for this new community, where there is high unemployment and is also the most multi-cultural community in the city. They run many courses from computers, English classes, sewing and textiles, Communications. They also provide particular courses for women; such as the independent parents morning on Monday mornings and a Women's Group on Friday mornings.

NUI Galway Students Participate in International Campaign To End Violence Against Women

After the success of this year's 'Slutwalk', NUIG Feminist Society are very proud to announce our Programme of Events for 2011's 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women.

We hope that you will be there to enjoy the series of events and celebrate the bravery of women with us. The campaign seeks to highlight the importance of human rights as we aspire towards a world without violence against women.

We will also be raising money for the Galway Rape Crisis Centre throughout the 16 Days. We have received extra-ordinary support for this year's events and will host a series of cultural and political events which will showcase the wealth of talent that Galway has to offer:

Community in Gort unites to send the message: Violence against women is NOT acceptable

Gort Family and Community Resource Centre is inviting community members to take part in the launch of the National Balloon Action, held in solidarity with the one in five women who are experiencing domestic violence.

Gort FRC will launch balloons at Quinn Memorial Park, (behind the Church).

Gort Family and Community Resource Centre would appreciate your participation and support with the release of balloons at 1pm, 23rd November, followed by teas and coffees at the Centre afterwards.

With this action we hope to demonstrate that we are united with all communities in acknowledging that

violence against women is not acceptable.

Pléaráca CDP: For a small rural organization like us, it is a time to be part of a much larger campaign in raising awareness about violence against women and because of the publicity the 16 days of action gets, the local newspapers and the local Radio Station are interested in what is happening on the ground locally.

Tuam & District Mental Health Association : 25 Years Promoting Positive Mental Health

 

We here at Women's Aid are delighted to congratulate Tuam & District Mental Health Association on their 25th Anniversary and on the official opening of their new information office.. The celebrations got underway with a night of music and dancing at the Corralea Court Tuam with guest stars Michael Steward and Gary Quinn and a great night was had by all. The Association is also planning to take part in the 16 Days of Action with a packed programme as follows;

 

Programme of Events.

1. To hold a talk with key speakers in the local hotel, centered around the complex issues associated with Domestic Violence.

Day 2: Roundup of Events

It is Day 2 of the Campaign today and here are some of the interesting events taking place:

  • Women's Aid Solidarity Balloon Action online continues throughout the campaign. Click here to add your voice.
  • Gort FRC are joining in the Women's Aid National Balloon Action today at 11am on at Quinn Memorial Park, County Galway.
  • Longford Womens's Link have organised a "Walk of Remembrance" in memory of those women who have been murdered in Ireland.
  • The Violence Against Women 365 International Poster Exhibition, curated by Colm Dempsey is open at The Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfiled, Dublin from 2pm until 8pm
  • "Jordan" a play by Anna Reynolds with Moira Buffini is showing at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast.

West Training and Development Balloon Action Day

West Training & Development took part in the National Balloon Action on Thursday the 25th November.

Two members of AMACH! LGBT Galway joined us at the office for the release of two groups of balloons.

In the office, we have attached white ribbons to a 'tree of remembrance' and displayed facts about the level of domestic violence in Ireland.

Gort Family Resource Centre 16 Days Campaign

Gort FRC are joining in the Women's Aid National Balloon Action at 11am on Friday 26th November at Quinn Memorial Park. Members of the local community including transition year students form local schools have been invited to attend. Hot drinks are available at the Community Resource Centre afterwards. There is also a window display with 166 white ribbons attached to mauve ribbons in remembrance of the women killed in Ireland since 1996.
