Day 14: Domestic violence and health

Women who have experienced domestic violence are at an increased risk of depression and suicide attempts; physical injuries; psychosomatic disorders; unwanted pregnancies; HIV and other STD's; being killed by a partner. (World Health Organisation, World Report on Violence and Health, 2002)
The effects of violence on a woman's health are severe. In addition to the immediate injuries from physical assault, women may suffer from chronic pain, gastrointestinal disorders, psychosomatic symptoms, and eating problems.

Meath Women's Refuge Celebrate 25th Anniversary

Meath Women's Refuge is celebrating it's 25th Anniversary during the 16 Days of Action this year.
The anniversary will be marked with a Ladies Lunch fundraising event on December 8th at 'The Central', Trimgate Street in Navan.
The event will kick off with a drinks reception at 12.30pm and Sharon and the Shortcuts will be the special guests providing entertainment for the afternoon.

Lifeline (Inishowen) 16 Days Events

Lifeline (Inishowen) Domestic Violence Service provides a community response offering a first step to support women and children in Inishowen who are experiencing domestic violence. At all times, the service is 'woman centred', providing invaluable support at a time when the woman is likely to be under huge emotional, psychological and financial pressure.
Lifeline will hold Bucket Collections throughout Inishowen on Friday 30th and Saturday 1st December.
They will have a Charity Shop open in The Diamond Carndoangh, Inishowen Mon - Sat 10.30 - 5pm until 14th December.
Lifeline will join the One in Five Women Balloon Action with a release on Saturday 8th December at 12noon in the Diamond Carndonagh Inuishowen.
