Safe Ireland launches the ManUp Public Awareness Campaign
Posted on November 27, 2012
Safe Ireland, the umbrella organisation for over 40 women's refuges and support services across Ireland, today launched a new public awareness campaign. Speaking at the launch, Sharon O'Halloran, Director of Safe Ireland, said, "Most men celebrate and respect women - they don't control them. Good men protect and care for children. Today men are proudly standing up and declaring zero tolerance on domestic violence of any kind. It's time to help make Ireland the safest place for women and children. Man UP is an inspiring, brave new campaign to change the face of domestic violence."
You can support this campaign and help spread awareness that challenges the perverse and warped justifications that some men have for abusing women and children.

Day 3: Domestic abuse can happen to any woman, in any home and at any stage of her life
Posted on November 27, 2012
Domestic abuse is a serious crime that affects one in five women in Ireland. It can affect any woman, in any home and at any stage of her life.
Domestic abuse occurs in every social and economic grouping of society, all ethnic groups and cultures and among people of every educational background. There is no "type" of woman to whom it occurs, and there is no "type" of home in which it happens. Sadly, domestic abuse is a feature of contemporary Irish life.
The vast majority of those affected by domestic abuse are women and children, and women are also considerably more likely to experience repeated and severe forms of violence and sexual abuse.
