"I am a mature student studying Social Studies and Social Care in LIT for the last three years. Thankfully I have had the opportunity to work in many social care settings and through this work, I have heard many shocking statistics. The fact that one in five women suffer from domestic violence is of huge shock value to me.

Hopefully this awareness campaign will highlight to many people how serious and frequent domestic violence is in Ireland. I have the utmost respect for Women's Aid, who for the past 30 years has provided a voice to women all over Ireland whose own voices have been taken away through domestic abuse. There should be a 365 day public awareness campaign for this abuse. But hopefully this 16 days awareness campaign will highlight to the Irish nation how important it is to combat violence towards women".
