Day 1: Roundup of Events

Today marks the first day of the 16 Days Campaign and there are lots of events taking place all around the country;
Women's Aid launched its National Balloon Action today with the release of 200 balloons outside Dail Eireann at 11am. The balloons were released in solidarity with the one in five women in Ireland experiencing domestic violence. Today also saw the launch of the Women's Aid online virtual balloon release . The Women's Aid National Balloon Action was mirrored across the country with groups participating in nearly every county including Wexford, Mayo, Clare, Galway, Wicklow, Tipperary and Carlow.
Removing Pain: a performance by Beth Moyses took place at Physics Square, Trinity College Dublin at 1.00pm today.
As part of the 16 Days Campaign, AkiDwA, the Migrant Women Network is hosting a conference in Dublin today to highlight their work on Gender Based Violence.
Bethany House Women's Refuge , Longford are holding a commomorative mass for those who have experienced domestic violence today
The Bagenalstown Family Resource Centre in Co. Carlow are hosting a coffee morning and Avon party to mark the 16 Days of Action campaign.
The Violence Against Women 365 International Poster Exhibition, curated by Colm Dempsey is open at The Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfiled, Dublin
At 7pm this evening the NRG youth group form Killaloe/Ballina are launching their Action Art project at Crotty's Corner.
Dundalk Women's Aid are launching their campaignin the County Museum tonight with the theme "Why doesn't she leave - the barriers faced by women"
