North Inner City Domestic Violence Action Group public event

The North Inner City Domestic Violence Action Group (Hill Street Family Resource Centre, Inner City Organisations Network, Lourdes Youth & Community Services, Dublin Adult Learning Centre, NASCADH CDP, SWAN Youth Service & Clonliffe Community Centre) is holding a public event at Mountjoy Square Park, Dublin 1, on Wednesday 30th November at 11.30am.

They invite you to remember with them the 174 women who lost their lives violently in Ireland since 1996, by displaying a banner of flags showing the towns and cities where the women came from. This action follows on the moving display in 2010 and involves many members of the local community.

LA CDP: The importance of the issue highlighted.


WA: Please describe your campaign actions for the 16 Days of Action in 2010.
LA CDP: We worked in partnership with a number of agencies to hold a candlelit vigil and also to gather and publish a collection of prose and poetry from women on the subject of domestic violence, which was very moving.

Kilmallock Family Support Network Coffee Morning, 30th November

Coffee morning

Kilmallock Family Support Network are organising a coffee morning and balloon release as part of the 16 Days Campaign.

 

The event is taking place at the Friars Gate Theatre, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick on November 30th. There will be a coffee morning which local community groups residents and local press will be invited to and they will be taking part in the Women's Aid National Balloon release that day also. Donations collected on the day will be given to Adapt House and they will also attend on the day. The event is being organised by Kilmallock Family Support Network. Alcohol Action Conference "Alcohol Where's the Harm?" 15th November 2011

Alcohol Action Ireland's upcoming conference, 'Alcohol - Where's the Harm?', will examine the relationship between alcohol and "public" crime in Ireland. It will also seek to explore "hidden" crime - sexual violence and domestic violence - and the relationship with alcohol.

 

The conference will be opened by Minister Róisín Shortall on Tuesday, 15 November 2011, Royal College of Physicians, Dublin 2

The conference will be free to allow a maximum number of participants to attend. However Alcohol Action Ireland would ask participants who are in a position to do so, however, to make a donation to them via their website www.alcoholireland.ie in order to help cover costs.

White House Announces iPhone Apps to Combat Dating Violence

Over the summer, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, working alongside Vice President Joe Biden and The White House of Office and Technology, launched the "Apps Against Abuse" technology challenge, and called on software innovators to harness the power of mobile technology to help prevent dating violence by keeping young women connected to trusted support networks and providing easy access to important resources for help.

This week, community groups all over the country will receive Action Packs to help you take part in the 16 Days of Action, by joining in the One in Five Women National Balloon Action. Make sure your organisation or community members don't miss out!

The National Balloon Action is a nationwide solidarity campaign to highlight the levels of domestic violence against women in Ireland. Last year over 100 groups across the country took part in the action and this year looks set to involve even more communities.

Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Company (Mayo North East): It provides a national awareness of the issue of domestic violence in a consistent approach which has a greater impact on the message that is being sent out.

Campaign Spotlight on Ireland's Top Teens Finalists: NRG Foroige Club

This campaign spotlight, on the NRG Foroige Club based at the Killaloe/Ballina Community & Family Resource Centre, captures the brilliant knock on effects that 16 Days campaign actions can have for groups involved and for the community.

The result of their excellent action (which you can read all about below) has been that they have been chosen as finalists, having won the regional award, in the Permanent TSB Foróige Youth Citizenship Programme and Awards 2011.

They will appear this Sunday October 26th at 6pm on Top Teens,

TV3's special coverage of the contestants and awards.

NRG Foroige will then go forward on November 2nd to the Helix in Dublin to take part in the finals, where it will be decided who are Irelands Top Teens.
