The 16 Days of Action in YOUR Community
Posted on October 03, 2011
Women's Aid is the Specialist Support Agency on Violence against Women to community groups under the Local and Community Development Programme, and Family Resource Centres. This means that we work to support groups in implementing the Code of Practice on Domestic Violence through training in your locality, as well as through other information provision and support. Read more here.
Therefore, we know that many community groups are continually working to raise local awareness and support individual women in your community to access relevant support services.
The 16 Days is a fantastic opportunity to throw a spotlight on the work your group is doing throughout the year in responding to domestic violence in your community.

Welcome to the 2011 16 Days Blog!
Posted on October 03, 2011
Thanks for visiting the 16 Days Blog! The blog goes live almost two months ahead of the 16 Days of Action Opposing Violence against Women, which runs from November 25-December 10.
That way, we hope that as much linking and learning for community groups across the country is possible. We also hope to raise as much awareness of the campaign as possible, so that anyone who wants to get involved in a Women's Aid or a local action has plenty of time to do so.
In the run-up to the 16 Days of Action, you can expect lots of great information on the blog:

Message of Support from An Garda Síochána
Posted on December 10, 2010
"An Garda Síochána is delighted to again support the ongoing work of Women's Aid and is pleased that the topic of domestic violence is again being highlighted in the run up to Christmas which unfortunately is a time when incidents of violence can increase. No one should have to suffer being physically, mentally, sexually or financially abused by their partner.
An Garda Síochána would like to assure those suffering from such violence that help is available but this help must be requested. It is widely recognised that silence protects the offender and the victim continues to suffer.

Message of Support from Ailbhe Smith, Co-Convenor, Feminist Open Forum
Posted on December 09, 2010
"The statistics on men's violence against women in Ireland and worldwide continue to be appalling. We have to do everything in our power to stop this devastation of women's lives, and to bring to justice all those who perpetrate it. Very sadly, in this time of crisis, the figures are on the increase bringing yet more pain and hardship to so many women.
Feminist Open Forum stands in solidarity with all women who are victims of these dreadful crimes, and with those who work so hard on their behalf. We call on the government not to cut the already inadequate funding to these literally vital services."
